The Parkside Neon Festival (scheduled to take place on May 21st, 2005!) is a program developed by Slipped Disc Productions and brought to you by Parkside Middle School of Jackson, Mi.
This after-school program will teach students how to organize and actually produce a day-long music festival. The preparation arrangements and actual execution of such a large scale event requires a great deal of planning. Every Monday afternoon from 3:30 to 5pm, students involved in this Neon after-school program volunteer their time in this hands-on learning experience. There is a lot that goes into such a project and many skills are developed. The group will have to divide into various committees. The class will have to find sponsors and sell advertising space to raise funding to cover the cost of the bands as well as other expences. They'll have to decide which bands they will be able to afford. They may have to go before the City Council to ask permission to hold such an event. Advertizing, T-shirt designing and sales, the creation of the program booklet: are just some of the many aspects which must be considered and implemented. As I've stated above, there are many skills required in a project of this size, but in the end, it's a very good feeling when it all comes together successfully.

April 16th Carwash
We held a carwash on April 16th to raise money for the proposed festival. The weather was grand and we washed about 50 to 60 cars. It was hard work. Only about half of the students who agreed to help actually showed up, so the ones who did show up had to work harder than they should have. So kudos to John, Caroline, Brandon, Rahman, Kari & Ashley (hope I got your names right. Their labors raised $211.75. Together with the $12 that Caroline raised going door-to-door, that brings our total to $223.75! We've still got a ways to go. (Rahman said that he's has raised 35 dollars by knocking on doors but has yet to turn it in, so we won't count that yet.) Our fundraising campaign has been sluggish at best but this has been our best effort to date. Thanks guys......Tom & Cindy

below:   This is the T-shirt design that we settled on. Several designs were considered but this one got the most votes. I think it stands out nicely.
